Some barrels are made to age tequila. Others are meant to tell stories around the table. With Ecoware, José Cuervo’s barrels discovered that their second life could be just as memorable as the first.
After years of aging tequila, José Cuervo’s barrels eventually complete their role in the distillery. Traditionally, this type of wood is stored, reused in limited ways, or discarded—despite retaining enormous material and symbolic value.
The challenge was clear: to transform a noble byproduct into a functional, attractive, and highly desirable object, without losing the essence of the brand or turning sustainability into a forced message.
Ecoware set out to create a product that could speak for itself—one that would resonate with consumers who value design, gastronomy, and well-told stories.
This was not simply about recycling wood. It was about giving it a second life with purpose, preserving the heritage of tequila and bringing it directly to the table.
The answer was as logical as it was creative: cheese boards crafted from recycled wood sourced from authentic José Cuervo tequila barrels.
Each board is carefully produced to preserve the natural character of the wood, embracing its grain, tonal variations, and subtle imperfections. No two pieces are exactly alike. The result is a solid, elegant, and authentic object—designed not only to serve food, but to become the centerpiece of any gathering.
As a final signature detail, each board features a laser engraving on the underside that reads:
“This product is made with Jose Cuervo tequila barrels”
It is a discreet yet powerful statement. Those who discover it immediately understand they are holding something more than a serving board—it is a piece with origin, legacy, and personality.
The design strikes a balance between craftsmanship and contemporary style, making the board equally at home in a gourmet tasting, a casual get-together with friends, or as a premium gift that tells a story without saying a word.
The Ecoware cheese boards achieved something rare: they became conversation starters before they were even used.
From a sustainability perspective, the project proves that circular design can be aspirational. Reusing materials does not mean compromising on aesthetics; in fact, it can enhance them. By extending the life of the barrels, Ecoware transforms an industrial byproduct into a durable, desirable object with emotional value.
The Ecoware cheese boards made from recycled José Cuervo barrels demonstrate that sustainability does not have to be invisible or dull. It can be warm, functional, and deeply human.
Here, the wood that once aged tequila now accompanies laughter, conversation, and shared moments.
Because some stories are not told—
they are shared.
